Lightning Download will of course be connecting to servers where you are downloading files, and can ping
them to find which is fastest, etc.
Some useful features of Lightning Download can connect to our websites.
We don't want to do anything sneaky. Below are "extra" connections that come to our servers--and how to turn them
off if you don't want them.
FileMirrors.com Searching. This one can send the URL you are downloading, but that sharing is under your control.
FileMirrors searching is an optional service that
can be used to help Lightning Download users share and search for mirrors for downloads.
If you choose to use this service, it will at least send the file name and size for the
search request. And if you choose, this can optionally
send the URL you are downloading from so it can be added to the search database to help
later people downloading the same file.
The controls to turn on/off and set if to share are on the Mirror Searching page in the Options.
(You are also asked about this one in the installer.)
More about the FileMirrors service.
Visit www.FileMirrors.com
Checking for newer versions of Lightning Download.
This connects to our HTTP server and downloads a small file
(specifically http://www.lightningdownload.com/updates.ini).
Then the copy of Lightning Download on your computer compares the version number in that file to its own version.
This can be turned off using the Advanced page in the Options.
Even if enabled it will only be triggered to check every month or so.
